Chapter 4
Sasporilla Buckets eyes popped open at 5:15 am. She was so used to the schedual of working in the kitchens and laundry, she guessed it would be a while before she got used to sleeping to a normal hour. She quietly made her bed, washed up and got dressed. She lifted the lid to Gooseberrys house and she saw she was fast asleep with her head snuggled on her little pillow.
The room had a peculiar odor to it. Janey Grotinag rolled over in her bed, let out a loud snore and farted so hard the blankets wafted up and out.
Sasporilla walked down the hall into into the kitchens. The house elves were buisly cooking the morning breakfast at their usual hectic pace.
"Hello everyone." Sasporilla said.
There was an audible gasp as work stopped and all the house elves looked up to see what student wandered into the kitchens at this hour of the morning.
"Miss Sasporilla!" Drooble smiled and ran over to her giving her the biggest hug ever.
"What are you doing here in the kitchens?"
"I woke up early, thought I pop down to say hello." Sasporilla smiled.
The elves all waved and went back to making breakfast.
"Miss Sasporilla." Drooble said quietly. "As you are not on the scheduled for working in the kitchens any more you're technically not suppose to be in the halls before 6."
"I won't tell if you don't." Sasporilla whispered back.
"But Drooble must follow the rules and say something to the head of your house." Drooble fround.
"Well what if I was working in the kitchen helping to make breakfast?" Sasporilla asked.
"Well I guess that would be fine." Drooble mused. "Would you like too?"
Sasporilla nodded and smiled. Drooble snapped his fingers and a smock appeared around her neck. Within minutes she was frying eggs, flipping pancakes and singing along with house elf work songs, just like the old days.
At breakfast food tasted all the better knowing she'd help make some of it. She saw the young boy, who was sorted into Slytherine and started to cry, being lead in by the Slytherinr House prefect Draco Malfoy. Malfoy sat the child down hard onto the bench.
"Sit here, eat your breakfast and stop sniveling." Draco hissed. "You're a Slytherin for pete sake."
Malfoy walked away leaving the boy on his own. Sasporilla got up and went over to him and offered him a tissue. The boy accepted it and blew his nose rather loudly.
"Hi." The young witch said. "I'm Sasporilla Bucket."
"Hi, I'm Zacariah Zarcazzian." The boy said shaking her hand.
"Look I know what it's like being away from home such for the first time." Sasporilla tried to reasure him.
"It's not that." Zac said. "I hate my home. I hate my family. They're all dark wizards and witches. They're mean and cruel and and I was happy to get away from them. When I got here I hoped the sorting hat would put me anywhere but Slytherin. My whole ancestry is Slytherin."
"I come from a long line of Slytherins too." Sasporilla said. "I'm not mean and cruel."
"No but your in Hufflepuff." Zac insisted inconsolably. "No one would think you are. Everyone will think I am."
"I'm sure not all Slytherins are bad." Sassy smiled.
"Name one!" Zac insisted.
"You." Sasporilla smiled. "You seem pretty nice to me. Don't let your house or the people of your house define you. Be the best Zacariah Zarcazzian that you can be. We have some nasty girls in Hufflepuff. One gave me a cup cake with a nose bleed drat in it."
"That's horrible." Zac said.
"Yes it was but does everyone let her behaviour define them? No we do not!"
"Thank you." Zac said.
"My pleasure." Sasporilla smiled and patted his head. "If you want you can come have breakfast with me."
"No he most certainly can not." Draco Malfoy snapped. "You shouldn't be at the Slytherin table either."
"I'll sit where I like and talk to whom I want Draco Malfoy." Sasporilla said.
"I'm a prefect now missy." Draco sneered. "I'll report you."
"For what?" Sasporilla said unafraid of the taller older boy. "For comforting another human being when their down?"
"Please." Zac said quietly. "I don't want to cause any trouble."
"What is the problem here?" Professor Snape asked, hoping for once to have a quiet breakfast.
"This Hufglepuff won't leave our table and had the nerve to invite a Slytherin to eat with.... them!" Malfoy scowled.
"The rules are clear Miss Bucket." Professor Snape droned. "All students will eat with their houses at their assigned tables."
"Why?" Sasporilla asked.
"Because those are the rules." Professor Snape insisted, spinning his finger and pointing in the direction of the Hufflepuff table.
"The whole point of last year and the Tri-wizard cup was to build relationships and friendships between magical communities. Now here we are unable to cross arbitrary barriers of our design. I say it's time for those walls that separate us to come down and we encourage intermingling of houses."
"I can see", Professor Snape scowled, "that Miss Lee-Ashwolf has had an influence on you for the worse."
"I take that as a compliment." Sasporilla said firmly.
"5 points from Hufflepuff for your insolent cheek." Proffessor Snape hissed.
"Make it 10." Sasporilla said angrilly. "Because I haven't finished!"
"Miss Bucket." Proffesor Sprout said. "May I see you for a moment?"
"Yes Professor." Sasporiĺla said.
"That's it." Draco Malfoy said. "Mind Hufflepuff business for once."
"Maybe I would." Sasporilla turned and yelled. "If it were possible for any of you to show an upset child even an ounce of compassion!"
"Insolence!" Professor Snape hissed.
"Sounds more like wisdom from the mouth of babes to me Severous." Professor Sprout said gently pulling Sasporilla away.
Professor Sprout took Sasporilla back to the Hufflepuff table and sat beside her.
"Now." Professor Sprout smiled. "Tell me just what happened."
